The six PSL franchises firmed up their full squads for the seventh edition of the competition scheduled to begin January 27 in Karachi. Each franchise had the opportunity of retaining a maximum of eight players. Then they met in Lahore to finalize the remaining squad and complete an 18-man side, including two supplement players to prepare for scenarios such as injury and Covid-19 cases in any camp. However, it was agreed that these players can feature in the XI regardless of circumstances.
Teams were each allowed three platinum, diamond, and gold players, five silver, and two from the emerging and additional categories. However, no one can choose more than four players combined, both foreign and local, in the platinum and diamond groups. A team must select at least three foreign players from the first nine selections and be able to get another foreign player from overtime.
Rules about foreign players in Squad
In addition, teams must feature a minimum of three foreign players and a maximum of four in their game XI. Teams of 16 players must consist of five foreign players and 11 local players, while the group of 18 players can be a combination of six foreign players and 12 local players or five foreign players and 13 local players. In addition, according to PSL regulations, a new player must be an Under-23 by January 1 of the playing season or someone who has played a total of ten or more games in PSL over two seasons but is not eligible to be in PSL.
